Robert De Niro and Paul Dano star as an estranged father and son attempting to reconnect in this drama based on writer Nick Flynn's memoir of his difficult early life. With his con-man father Jonathan (De Niro) having disappeared out his life when he was a child and his mother Jody (Julianne Moore) subsequently committing suicide, struggling writer Nick (Dano) finds it hard to get his life back on track. Things are complicated further when, after a break of 18 years, an alcoholic and delusional Jonathan turns up at the homeless shelter where Nick now works, looking for a place to sleep. Over the coming weeks Nick wrestles with his demons as he tries to make sense of everything life has thrown at him so far.
An undercover investigator's moral compass begins to change when she infiltrates an anarchist group responsible for targeting major corporations. When the CEOs of high profile companies find themselves the victims of a number of covert attacks, former FBI agent Sarah Moss (Brit Marling) is recruited by private intelligence firm Hiller Brood to gather information on 'The East', a shadowy eco-activist collective thought to be responsible. After finally managing to infiltrate the group, however, Sarah discovers her allegiances beginning to shift, as she increasingly begins to question the moral uncertainties of her life and finds herself falling under the spell of the group's charismatic leader Benji (Alexander Skarsgård).
Family comedy starring Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick. For Cloverdale, Massachusetts optometrist Steve Finch (Broderick), no time of the year can compare to the glory of the Christmas season. And, for many years now, he's carried on a series of heartfelt but hokey Yuletide traditions that his family - wife Kelly (Kristin Davis), daughter Madison (Alia Shawkat), and son Carter (Dylan Blue) - at this point, can barely tolerate. Despite his family's exhausted protests, super-organised Steve has the December calendar chock full with everything from shooting the Finch's annual Christmas card photo, to their ritual tree harvesting and neighbourhood caroling night. There's also scheduled time for shopping, 'personal reflection,' and the town's yearly Winterfest carnival, which Steve joyously oversees. But Steve's Christmas bliss is suddenly destroyed when slippery car salesman Buddy Hall (DeVito) moves in next door and Steve finds himself going toe-to-toe with his new neighbour. Buddy quickly begins to undermine Steve's dominance as the local 'King of Christmas' when he sets out to festoon his new house with enough glowing holiday lights so it will be visible from outer space.
Jake Scott directs this indie drama starring James Gandolfini and Kristen Stewart. Middle-aged businessman Doug (Gandolfini) has led a life of quiet desperation since the death of his daughter eight years ago, and the subsequent withdrawal from life of his severely depressed wife, Lois (Melissa Leo). While attending a conference in New Orleans, Doug makes a fumbled attempt to heal his own broken heart by engaging with the problems of troubled teenage runaway Mallory (Stewart).
